Hi - The other day I noticed something strange was going on with my machine - slight amount of slowness and error messages about MS Word Macros that I’m certain I did not set up or authorize. (Sadly I didn’t take a screen grab of these, and I don’t recall the full error text.)
This concerned me, so I immediately ran a virus scan on my Win 7 machine and it found a multitude of problems, among them several Java Agents viruses and other items. In looking at several of the message boards, it seems like these are rather difficult to get rid of. Can anyone help me in making sure that I’ve successfully removed all threats? I’m a little new at this…
Here’s what I did. I ran the avast! full system scan, which found a number of items that I moved to the chest. It then prompted me to run a boot time scan, which I also did. It uncovered even more items, which I then selected to delete all. I tried to attach screen captures of these logs.
I then ran a Quick Scan using MBAM. It came up with nothing.
I then uninstalled Java from my machine entirely.
In looking at this thread, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 - I installed OTL and ran the custom scan that they suggested and produced the below logs. I just want to make sure my machine is totally clear. I can’t afford to buy a new one.
Thanks for such fast responses! I have reposted new screen captures of the avast scans with file locations if that helps?
But per essexboy’s reply: good to know that nothing looks problematic in the logs other than apparently having avast and Norton installed at the same time. Thanks for pointing this out, as I actually did not realize that Norton was still installed. It came prepackaged with my machine when I bought it, and I did not want to renew the license after it expired. I did (a while back) go through the steps to uninstall it through control panel, but I still do get Norton notifications popping up requesting that I upgrade the software. I’ve not been successful in removing these, however.
If there is a way to remove Norton without harming my system (especially if having both Norton and avast can potentially cause problems), then any suggestions you can provide would be most appreciated!
