java blocked

the “web shield” feature of avast 2014 seems to completely block java applets and java web start. There
is no apparent way to stop this except by disabling the shield completely. There’s also no apparent notification
of this action, except the implied notification when java applications fail to start.

This is a really bad idea. Lots of other forces at Oracle, Apple and Firefox are already making java seem like the black plague and hard to use on the web. Avast shouldn’t be in that business too.

Apply this patch:
Correct ashWebSv.dll version 9.0.2006.160 for the initiali release of avast 2014! Fixes mostly JAVA problems with IPv6 traffic.
http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/patches/

The same trouble with me and I tried already but regretly the patch doesn’t work.

Having the same problem with a family members PC… Win7 Home Premium 64bit SP1, Newest version of Firefox and Java installed… have also tried getting the applets to load in chrome and I.E, but no success. The java-loading animation appears and just spins and spins, with an empty progress bar.

If I disable the shields, and hit refresh, then the java-loading animation appears and a popup windows give me the java warning and lets me choose to let it run, which is DOES JUST FINE at that point.

So, Avast is blocking that popup confirmation window for some reason. I suspect it’s interfering with some sort of Windows function for java alerts, but have no idea what to do about it… other than stop using Avast, which after years of using and recommending it, I’m very close to doing… this is twice in recent months that program updates have royally jacked me up with blocking basic computer functions, and quite frankly I’m getting a bit fed up with it.

Do you have the latest update 2007 ? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138753.0

Hi. I am having the same problem. I did not have any problems going to www.canadiantire.com to view their weekly flyer. It loads the flyer ok but when I try to click on an item the screen goes grey. Inspecting the element it show javascript void 0 problem. When I disable the firefox avast web shield addon it works normally. The javascript enable is on in about config also.

Forgot to mention I am also using win7 and the newest avast pro 2014 update.

Have you the 2014.9.0.2007 update as that cured the java problem

Yes I have the new 2017.9.0.2007

Same here… anytime something is acting hinky like that the first thing I do is update all the affected programs.

I updated Firefox, Avast, even Java. Still the same thing.

It’s blocking that popup window that gives the option to run java. If the popup window is allowed to appear, and we click YES then java runs just fine.

Upgrading to the new 2017.9.0.2007 didn’t fix it for me.

I had this same problem with JavaScript being blocked in both Firefox and Chrome and turning off the web shield made no difference. But disabling the Avast Browser Security and Web Reputation Plug-In extension in each of those browsers did restore job for me in both.

Not sure what kind of security issues I may have opened myself up for, but I do prefer Java to work on the websites I visit.

AVAST 2014 Program update (9.0.2008) was released November 11. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=139606.0

Yes, it did solved the problem. Do you have it or could you link me to somewhere, please? (The link is not working!) Because, I know the present version 9.0.2008.117 is not working. And I think, may be replacing this with the old 2007 might solve it for now until avast finds fixex! -_-

All these fixes without checking what broke in the previous version as a result costs us unnecessary headaches!

EDIT: My bad, you may be referring to the program update that’s why it was not working I suppose. I actually need the ashWebSv.dll file ONLY from the 9.0.2007 version so that I could replace it

I am having this trouble and have been for some time on my own Website (www.justdoproperty.co.uk)

Disabling the plugin fixes the issue, but as the chain above implies a program update fixes things I am unsure why I still have this issue as am on 2014.9.0.2013.

Firefox is also fully job to date, as is Windows - which I am on Win 7 64 bit.

All other software is believed to be up to date as verified by the Avast Software Updater.

This thread is two months old.

Just disable the “avast online security” plug-in.
The web shield has your back.
