The free version of Avast 8 gave me a message to do a Java Update and I did it.
Now I’m wondering if that was a bogus message by some kind of virus.
Can an Expert confirm for me that Avast 8 does in fact give messages to users to do
a Java Update. The reason I want confirmation is, when I went into my Control
Panel later, to check that I got the latest Java Update, it didn’t say “I have
the latest update.” Instead, it did another Java Update.
If an expert can weigh in I would much appreciate it.
If you got a blue dialog saying “avast! Software Updater”, it is legitimate one, a new feature called “Software Updater”.
A few days ago Oracle released a new Java update (Java 7 Update 17) but avast! database renewed very recently, so it could be possible that avast updated Java from very old one to old one, then original Java updater updated it to latest one.
Do you remember what version Software Updater having tried to install?

Whew - Thank you - Thank you - Thank you. I don’t remember the color, all I remember is that it looked like a
very legitimate Avast dialog. I was so distracted at the time - multi-tasking. I will never install anything again
when I’m busy.

Yes that must be the sequence of events. Thanks for that.

I don’t remember - but I appreciate your help. I mainly wanted to know if that dialog is something
that Avast actually does and you confirmed it. Thank you.
