I’m running the latest version of avast and no problems until I updated java.
Java updated, but on restart, the file shield was disabled.
The “fix” button fixed it.
Is this normal?

I would say it isn’t normal by a long way as JAVA shouldn’t have any impact on avast in that way. Most likely a unfortunate coincidence/hiccup, monitor your system and if it is a regular occurrence then you need to do something more about it.
Thanks,
That has been the only glitch, maybe just a fluke.
Could be as you say, DavidR.
I just updated Java on my desktop and it went perfectly.
The first one was on an old IBM laptop.
Thanks for the advice, I’ll keep an eye on it. ![]()
Yes, I just make a mental note (in writing ;D) when something happens for the first time and ignore it; if it happens again more than a couple of times, then I refer to my note if the circumstances are the same try to identify the cause. It just doesn’t make sense investigation (e.g. wasting time) the first time something happens as computers are such fickle things.
So as far as investigation goes, when you come to do it you have your mental notes (in writing) to fall back on for any common things that you were doing when it happened. This information helps in your investigation, like posting in the forums as you have a bit of history of what happened.
