hi avast forum,
Is anybody using Jetclean junk files cleaner.?if so is it a safe cleaning option. 8)
Regards.
Never heard of it, CCleaners the only cleaner that i have on my systems and recommend for others.
Hi Arnold72 & craigb.
Think you can trust this download site: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=7226
If majorgeeks gives it a clean bill, the option should be safe, else they would not have the download links there!

Not questioning the download site or the authenticity of the program but,
I know Ccleaner works and does a good job. Unless there’s a compelling reason, I don’t intend to switch or even try Jetclean.
Hi bob3160,
That is not the point here. CCleaner can be the product of choice. Finding the download link at a place like majorgeeks just guarantees that the proggie and makers are reliable. They would not allow download links to questionables on their site, just like Geeks2Go would not. Majorgeeks is the only site that gives me a clean link to DrWeb’s CureIt, all the other download places give it with the nasty bundled nagging it has. These were the considerations to post this, not to question the excellence of CCleaner as your preferred choice,

The actual question was:
“Is anybody using Jetclean junk files cleaner.?if so is it a safe cleaning option.”
The download site was something interjected by Arnold72 and really has nothing to do with the quality of the software in question.
In addition to CCleaner and Glary Utilities, I do use the Free Portable version of JetClean.
I use the Registry Clean, Windows Clean and Apps Clean sections of it.
IMO, the Windows Clean and Apps Clean sections are rather safe … about as safe as CCleaner.
NOW … the Registry Clean section of it on the other hand, that one digs way deeper than CCleaner and even deeper than Glary Utilities.
It finds more so-called “Problems” than those two.
You definitely do want to be way more cautious, careful and very selective with what you give it the Green Light to “Fix.”
You definitely do NOT want to just blindly give it carte blanche to “Fix” all the so-called “Problems” it finds.
Because it WILL find TONs of them and most of them you won’t be able to ascertain what the consequence will be of letting JetClean delete those problems.
When I first used JetClean, the Registry Clean function found around 1200 “Problems.”
I’ve only felt comfortable letting JetClean fix several to where it’s now only down to around 995 problems.
But, it IS pretty good at finding the remnant Registry Entries of software that I know I just finished uninstalling and thus need to be deleted. Those types of remnant Registry Entries I have no problem letting it delete them.
Bottom line, the Registry area is ALWAYS a very risky area.
You never want to blindly give any “Junk Files Cleaner” the Full Steam go ahead to wipe out ALL of the so-called problems that it claims it found.
As a rule of thumb, if you have to ask such a question about a Registry Cleaner, and the further option / question of cleaning your Registry, leave it alone. Personally, the risk outways the advantage 100 fold.
Some stray Registry entries never caused anyone any harm, and couldn’t impact performance to your Windows run Computer to any noticeable degree.
It is good however Arnold72 to ask here as you did, the folks at Avast! will give you a safe and informative answer !

Well put !
EDIT:
As a safeguard for any changes to the Registry – ERUNT, which has been recommended on The Forums here, and other reputable Forums for years; and has never let me down when using Windows, should be used to make a backup of the Registry before tinkering.

hi all,
Thank you very much for the informative responses.I shall stay safe and stick with ccleaner.
Thanks again. ;D :
Hi Arnold72,
Thanks for bringing this up, all the others in the thread thanks for your reactions.
I think a lot of other users will find this thread rather informative.
This is exactly while I keep coming back here,

Chim,
Thank you for the great review of Jetclean. It’s always nice to read a response from someone who has the experience to competently give feedback on the software in question. And thank you for the info regarding registry cleaning. Very informative.
I have learned a great deal from your review. I will continue using ccleaner. I need to use what I trust most.
Thanks!
Great question Arnold72!
You are welcome, Charyb!
In just a bit, I’ll be using all 3 … CCleaner, Glary Utilities AND JetClean to look for, dig up and remove anything that smacks of RealPlayer.
The other day I inadvertently reinstalled it. I had actually uninstalled RealPlayer ages ago. But, since it sorta seems to be intertwined with my AOL, I was never able to get rid of a Window popping up during my AOL Log On, informing me that RealPlayer is not installed and prompting me if I want to reinstall it. I of course normally just simply click on “No” and move on. Well, the other day I was going to maximize my AOL Log On Window because it had somehow downsized itself. The annoying RealPlayer Reinstall Window prompt was slow in popping up. So, I went to maximize the AOL Log On Window and at that precise instant, the RealPlayer Reinstall prompt popped up and my Click to maximize my AOL Log On Window was instead interpreted as a Click on the YES in the RealPlayer Reinstall Window. Oh Noooooooo! And with there being no CANCEL Button, I could do nothing, but watch in horror as RealPlayer reinstalled. Grrrrrrrrrr!
So yeah, in THIS case … JetClean’s Registry DEEP-digging ability will be welcome to hunt down as many RealPlayer remnants as possible.
For whatever it’s worth, after avast Uninstalls, JetClean has found 2 or 3 Registry Entries that CCleaner did not find.
Not exactly some astronomical amount, but there’s the Info anyway.
I’m guessing that the reason CCleaner doesn’t bring up those 2 or 3 avast Registry Entries is because of its SAFER / Friendlier threshold.
Thus, it probably doesn’t deem those 2 or 3 avast Registry Entries as being anything critical that HAVE to be obliterated from your Registry.
Did a full scan and clean with every box ticked and it seems fairly safe with only a handfull of stuff removed ( backed up first ). It’s not very good though that this system cleaning tool doesn’t even remove itself properly when uninstalled, CCleaner removed some remnants ;D, there was still the program file and appdata roaming file left and quite a few registry entries under BlueSprig and JetClean which i manually removed.
Thanks Chim. Your input taught me something new. From the responses you received I think I’ll stick with tried and true CCleaner.
With over 1000 registry problems sounds somewhat risky to use Jetclean. The one place I don’t want to mess with is the registry.
@ craigb Would you recommend Jetclean for a newbie?
For plain ole straight up, in yer face Windows, Apps & Junk Files Cleaning … CCleaner IS my weapon of choice.
I’m quite comfortable and satisfied with CCleaner’s results there.
For SAFE Registry Cleaning … CCleaner is the way to go.
Okay, by “SAFE,” I don’t mean give it carte blanche to delete everything it finds.
I just mean, there are just less Registry issues found, thus less Info / Data to try and decipher and interpret.
For DEEPER, more thorough Registry Cleaning, I prefer JetClean and Glary Utilities.
Of course, more Info-deciphering, fuller attention and extra caution are required.
When I first used JetClean and Glary Utilities, I forget which one, (Whichever one I ran first) … but one of those two found a sizable amount of old Opera Browser Registry Entries, which CCleaner and even Revo Uninstaller had never found. They were old Opera Browser Registry Entries from the many Opera Snapshots I had installed and uninstalled over some time.
So, since all 3 (CCleaner, JetClean and Glary Utilities) appear to have a particular strength and prowess in different areas than the others, I got in the habit of using all 3 for optimum cleaning. I’m satisfied with the results of my Mercenary Cleaning Trio Combo. ;D
Was pretty simple to understand, just untick the registry box if you dont want to go there! the other option is doing what i did by making an image then i let JetClean have full reign to clean whatever it found ( just a test ) iv not noticed any adverse effects so far after several reboots and trying all programs.
Another promising tool that has been growing in popularity for a while now is “System Ninja” from Singularlabs http://singularlabs.com/software/system-ninja/ This tool found a leftover running process of JetClean :o, even after i’d run ccleaner and done a full manual search and deletion plus it picked up an extra 1009 files ;D
It does not touch or clean the registry unless you add the registry plugin.
System ninja looks an interesting tool but im always weary of “deleting” things.
Has this program been tried and tested.?
Another cleaner i have seen is Privazar.Have you tried this.?
Regards. 8)
I tried it before posting and imo is a better tool than jetclean since it found more rubbish and doesn’t leave behind running processes :o ( note that without system ninja i wouldn’t have even known there was a leftover process of jetclean as i thought i had deleted everything ) but if your not comfortable in using these tools then i suggest sticking to CCleaner
+1 CCleaners is the only product we all trust very highly, I can a sure you they’re about 80% of people here on the Avast forum are using CCleaners or maybe not ;D 8)
