JS:Downloader.cpa (trj)

Avast suddenly found this in my Chrome cache and moved it to the chest. Avast picked it up as soon as I started a Malwarbytes full scan.

This was after I rebooted my system and thus Windows 8, because some programs were running slow. My Windows 8 hung/froze on the ‘restarting’ purple screen with wheel spinning forever. I had to shut down PC by holding down physical power button. Windows started up fine upon reboot and everything was running fast, but as I started a Malwarebytes scan, Avast found the above virus.

I had used Chrome briefly ten minutes prior to reboot. And then briefly again several hours before that.

I can’t find much about this trojan via a Google search.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can't find much about this trojan via a Google search.
It is a java script from a infected website ... since Malwarebytes / avast did not find anything more i guess it was not able to do its job ... download more crap

but you can never be 100% sure so if you want a check, follow the guide Rednose gave link to

Cool, thanks. Windows 8 Smartscreen is warning against Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. What’s that about?

its normal, just ignore

I’m having problems with FarBar but will this aswMBR log help you help me for now?

Hi JakeBanes3

As you are having problems with Farbar, I have asked essexboy to assist you.
Wait for his instructions.

Hi download and run FRST … If smart screen tries to block it then select run and accept the warnings. It only does this on the 32 bit version for some reason

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Select additions at the bottom
[*]Press Scan button.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/frst.JPG

[*]It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
[*]Please attach both logs generated.

Thanks, I couldn’t find the logs, but then I found them lurking on my cluttered desktop. I redacted some of the file names replacing them with ******* because they were document files/folders with full names of my business clients.

Looks as though it was blocked, we will empty the temp files to be sure though

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CreateRestorePoint: FF user.js: detected! => C:\Users\Endre\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\qnboj71v.default\user.js [2015-07-15] RemoveProxy: EmptyTemp: CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/FRSTfix.JPG

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Cx].txt as well.

How long should it take to delete temp. Not sure if FarBar has frozen or not.

It really depends on when the last time that you cleared them was. It should take no more than 5 minutes at a push

Cool, thanks, it worked.

I’ve attached the AdwCleaner log.

Should now be squeaky clean … Any problems apparent

Great, thanks for your help. It’s running smooth.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Good advice. Question: Should any of those previous fixes have emptied my recycle bin?

Yes the initial fix would have done that as the temp area were cleared

Good to know. Thanks.
