My Avast software has been firing a popup that says it has block this trojan horse virus.
Here are the circumstances when this occurs.
I have one person that I occasionally exchange emails with. This is done using either Chrome or Firefox to log into my email provider, earthlink.net. I have used this email service for around 20 years, back before we had the i’net and browsers.
Avast fires no complaint when I open an email from this person. But when I click to reply to the email, that’s when the avast popup occurs. This is totally repeatable.
I have not corresponded with this person for 4 to 6 weeks. I warned them about the popup I was getting when I attempted to respond to their email, and they told me they took their laptop to a service to be checked and they found no problem with it.
At this point I’m guessing that their incoming email file has this Jscript embedded, or a link to an url that attempts to load the script when my browser processes the file to create the reply email. So atthat point I don’t reply to their email by using the browser function to create the reply, but by creating a new email and adding the to: address manually.
Please let me know if I’ve correctly assessed the situation, or let me know what you think is going on.
Other than this single occurrence (but repeatable for this specific email correspondent), I have had zero problems with my laptop. It in use on line 12 to 16 hours a day, but never surfing the next, but working with a very small set of web apps that that I use on a daily basis. Never had any problem with them.

Unless you consider all mail that is send electronically, it is not possible as email can only work with/over the Internet.
In the old days there where things like Fidonet that could be used to send mails to others.

Nope.
If it was their incoming email, you would not see a alert but that person would get one.
It can be a false positive, but I suggest to follow the instructions and have one of the listed malware removers look at things. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
A check won’t hurt
the popup screen shot is attached. Every time I open one of her emails and click on “reply”, this popup appears.
I have large volumes of emails and this is the only person I have every had this avast popup appear on when I attempt to reply using the reply function.
I do not use an email client. Just a browser to the earthlink web mail app. Never had a problem with it.
This avast popup occurs with both Chrome and Firefox. I stopped using IE a couple of years ago.
