JUST CANCEL THE @#%$* ACCOUNT!

It’s hard to find a Web service that doesn’t offer a free trial. But just try canceling. PC World’s Tom Spring did, and the results weren’t always pretty. To evaluate how difficult canceling an online service can be, he signed up for and then canceled 32 accounts, each at a different site.

I cancelled my AOL account some years ago; it took me 40 minutes to do so. The guy on the phone spent most of the time looking for me to keep the service. They are trained to do so. I told him I was going to live out of the country, I also told him I was “sad” ( :stuck_out_tongue: ) of “losing” my account. So the guy finally cancelled the account. I think I’m an fortunate subscriber; there are many people who can’t say the same!

At least you were able to speak to someone.

I have just canned my previous ISP, I was with them for over three years and they got bought out. The service promptly went to hell in a hand basket. The final straw was duplicate billing, I phoned 7 times (or more), left messages on their answer service, emailed numerous times, left support web form information and I never got a single acknowledgement in over 10 days.

In the end I phoned my Credit Card company and cancelled the direct debit mandate and told them not to allow further payments. The CC company usually insist you cancel the mandate with the merchant but in this case because of the total lack of contact they cancelled the mandate.

Any one in the UK contemplating biscit.net think again, I was really happy with V21 until they got bought out.

I agree with you, I didn’t have such a hard time. It’s good to know your experience with biscit.net so others won’t fall prey of their schemes.

I am about to cancel my Earthlink account now that I have my Mediacom broadband up and running. I hope I have better luck than the author. I am grateful I was given a “heads up” on Earthlink so that I know what to expect.
