Just getting a second opinion, and Avast Free issue

My nephews computer was recently infected with a trojan that totally disabled Avast, did a fresh re-install of Windows Vista. So I am here to see if there are lingering issues that need to be resolved or not. Hope not! See attached logs for details.

Also my Avast AV Free is not being recognized by Vistas Security center?? Avast is on and working, tried the fix here with the command prompt to verify no dice. Need advice here too please.

Last the FRST tool seems to be getting picked up as a virus at Virus Total…https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/a1e1c757b7abc0e905347e5f63a0e713da7aee5574079424d58606962c473fa9/analysis/

Oh and SFC scanned and found a corrupt file and repaired. Will attach to next post. Thanks in advance.

Normal, happens after evry update

Known bug on Vista, the devs are working on it.

Good to know I was beginning to think my nephews computer needed another re-install. As for the Virus Total Scan it is worrisome, but I will use the tools needed for repair.

Attached the SFC scanfile, I ran it again and it reported no integrity violations. Also I attached a Chkdsk log file for perusal, hope the information is helpful. I neglected to mention that after the reinstall it was an absolute nightmare to update the system with Windows Update. Failed installs, slow search performance that would take days to finish. It might be helpful to others to post this here as I have found it helpful to me with these Windows Update issues http://wu.krelay.de/en/

Remember to do exactly what it says or it will not be successful. It may interest you to know that I ended up installing each update individually which required several reboots (double click and install). After that Windows Update was much faster.

So lastly it appears my nephews computer is ok for the most part. I am going to install some drivers and programs that I neglected to install and hope that I do not end up where we were before. Oh and the trojan that initially infected his system was identified as gen.troj.heur.ut by Bitdefender. It infected his Steam main executable files.

Your log files are clean. You should be good to go; good luck on installing the rest and have a great summer!
