Just My day

Hi,
I did an Avast Search and got the following file as being infected.
C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP
Win32.Small-XK [trj]
I’m no computer expert but the file extension seems exotic to me and possibly system related. My problem is that I have no idea how to act. Should I quarantine or delete or what. A quick google search revealed this site:

Is the solution suggested in the forum viable or good
Please help

The memory.dmp file is created at the time of a crash and contains the contents of or the partial contents of memory. So it is possible at that time there was an infection in memory, this could then be in the memory.dmp file.

Deletion isn’t normally what I would suggest as a first option, but in this case the file is of little value and can be deleted.

The memory.dmp file is helpful to those with the tools and experience to interpret the contents of the file in finding out the cause of the crash. The longer that file is there the less value it is to someone with both the tools and experience. Should you experience another crash, this file if present would be overwritten if it didn’t exist then it would be created. So there is little issue in deleting it.

Maybe, sometime, in the past, you were infected with that malware and the computer crashed. The malware could be loaded in the memory… Is that file old? Did you fully scan your system?
