Just to make sure my computer is clean from malware

ok should i remove it in the control panel?

ok when i remove Mcafee in the control panel what will the McAfee uninstaller do?

McAfee Uninstaller completely remove McAfee AV

traditional add/remove program of windows may leave some trace of McAfee. these traces can cause varity of problem in future so don’t take chance and run McAfee uninstaller tool.

i contacted McAfee they told to restart my computer than go to control panel and remove it than restartmy computer again and download its uninstaller and run it and restart my computer a final time will this cause a varity of problems in the future or will it slow down my computer?

well should i listen to what McAfee told me to do to uninstall it?

Yes, as that is what we would have recommended, uninstall using add remove programs, reboot and run their uninstall tool.

i remove McAfee now my computer is alot faster  but i miss McAfee QuickClean it was like disk cleanup but better :frowning: does avast have something like McAfee QuickClean?

No, but you can get the free program CCleaner that does an excellent job and has other options besides just cleanup.

ok thanks and i have a little question lol on my windows xp desktop computer there is a program called cole2kmedia is that a safe program or is it just adware?

:frowning: my computer started getting Blue screen of death’s when i removed McAfee im going to run the uninstaller and tomorrow im going to get my computer hard drive reformated :-\

should i remove the memory.dmp on my computer or should i reformat windows 7 on my computer? the memory.dmp is 199MB and it was created by McAfee Internet Security it happend when i removed it from my computer

Cole2kmedia is a codec pack that has the files necessary for you to play various media file types like Divx,Xvid, MP4, and to decode various audio formats. It should be safe.

I wasn’t aware of this thread when I was helping the OP in this other new thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=62093.0. He apparently had not removed McAfee and ran into problems having 2 resident AV’s.

is it safe to delete the Memory.dmp file on my computer?

In theory, yes. It will be recreated on next boot.
But you don’t need to delete it. Just boot.

its been there for 5 days now the memory.dmp if i delete it will it make itself again if so how do i stop it?

It won’t make itself again unless you have a bsod again, that is when a memory.dmp file is created.

  • The memory.dmp file is created when your system crashes it contains what is in memory at the time of the crash. It could be as large as your memory.

If you have the tools and experience you can examine this file to help discover why the crash happened, if you don’t have this experience and tools, it is worthless to you. The older the file is the less worth it is also.

If windows were to crash again then it would create a new memory.dmp file if one wasn’t present or replace any existing one. So there really is no downside to deleting this memory.dmp file.

ok thanks! lol i have a question also that is off-topic and all but is my email hidden?

Yep. Don’t forget to update your Signature (you can make it for several machines).
