Just upgrade to 8 on Win 7 x64 -> BSOD

I just upgraded my Avast 7 (free) to Avast 8. Its been 2 hours and I have had 2 BSOD!!!
HELP please? can I go back to 7?

4th crash in 3 hours. I am uninstalling. And the BSOD sticky thread is just too old and long for me to weed through right now to troubleshoot while I am working from home.

Please send us the minidumps from the \windows\minidump directory.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I cant get the dump files. It errors too. But I system restored back to version 7 yesterday. No blue screens until 5 minutes after upgrading back to 8 this afternoon. I took this screen shot with my phone just before it rebooted.

I system restored back to before I upgraded so I have Avast 7 on again.

So mine too…had Win7 64bit SP1…today i upgraded with autoupdate…restart → BSOD!
Then i logon in safe mode, uninstalled AVAST 8, resart → everythings fine → so i made a clean install from download AVAST 8 free Edt. …-> restarted → SYS is now dead!
tried everything to come into safe mode but NO WAY anymore

I guess AVAST 8 is an too much too early version and not really worked out, so please fix it, i also recommended AVAST to everyone so far…i guess they are not happy discovering the same probs…

EDIT: After WIN7 SYS REP worked, i was able to start Safemode to uninstall AVAST 8 FREE Edt…now everthing works fine and win7 starts again…now going back to AVAST 7 free Edt.

My SYS:
AMD ATHLON x2 6000+
2GB DDR2
MSI MAINBOARD

Win 7 64-bit, instant BSOD after trying to run virtual machine on VirtualPC 2007 SP1 (6.0.192.0) twice in a row. That was the first thing I’ve tried to do after upgrade to Avast 8 IS.
Not trying anything else, going back to v7, waiting for 8.1…

BTW, why is it that hard to download older version on Avast page. It you push a new s***, try at least to let us dowload old versions…

Vlk, I will PM you dumps.

And where the f*** I am supposed to download a 7IS version that does not download 8 instead… What a moronic feature…

To the right are the download of all previous versions. Did you try a clean install using aswclear for all previous versions before installing 8.0?

It’s not working for IS, see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=116519.msg904208#msg904208

I wanted to let you all know I figured out what was causing the BSOD.

I found in my Device Manager after upgrading to Win 8 x64 that I had an un-installed (unknown) device. It was an ACPI component. The OS Message center was telling me I had to finish installing my “Away Mode” driver for the system. The MoBo is an Asus M2A-VM HDMI and after a lot of reading on this subject it was hard to get the power management chipset drivers to work for x64 OS. I had the latest BIOS 2302 but saw there was a BETA BIOS of 5001. I figured “What the Hell” and flashed the beta BIOS and after reboot I no longer have the uninstalled component in the Device Manager. All devices are showing installed.

I tried installing Avast 8 again and low-behold… no BSOD thus far. I believe the entire problem was due to the missing driver for this component.
