Just wondering what this means ?

A schedualed scan started today and after a few moments avast opened three tabs in chrome. All saying the same that my avast has added 585 new virus defenitions. Now does that mean my avast detected 585 new virus and andded them to the known list ?. Its just bugging me lol thanks. Also i have avast and avg both on my laptop and someone told me that it could cause problems is that true ? Also im new here lol

Not seen that alert before but i dont use chrome so maybe somone else can answer that but you should definitely not have avast and avg on your system at the same time so you’ll need to decide which one you want to keep, after uninstalling one of them you’ll need to run the appropriate removal tool to remove leftovers which you can find here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

Yeah it says 01 April 2012 : Your avast! added 585 virus definitions

I pefer avast as it detects far more virus’s than avg because avg never notifies me much and it is hard to navigate. I pefer avast and have it password preotected a nice feature may i add. Although a full system scan takes a full hour, of course i will now remove AVG and keep avast but just for personal interest what problems can it cause with 2 antivirus’s ? thanks

Thats just a notice telling you that avast has added 585 new definitions for the day, nothing to worry about  just have to get rid of AVG

Two AV’s can cause sluggishness, system lock ups, crashes ( blue screens ) and they usually start detecting eachother at some stage.

  1. Okai ill unistall avg and use the link you provided thanks

Just think of two dogs fighting over the same bone

If your avast scans are taking an hour this could be because of AVG be installed, my system scanned 40 Gb in 4 minutes this afternoon on full scan.

Yeah it says the scan speed is 6.1mb per second and its on 1 hour 3 muints and is only 3% complete im just looking into progams/unistall now.

What if one’s a mastiff and the others a chihuahua ;D

Mastiff can use the bone to pick the chihuahua out of his teeth ;D

How do I remove old third-party antivirus software before installing avast!?
Click on this link, find your AV program and follow their instructions.

I wouldnt be running a scan while uninstalling a program :o

Bob iv already supplied the link

I thought of that ;D and paused the scan and its half way through unistaliing avg then ill get round to the link oh and i have loads and loads of virus in the virus chest are they okai to leave there it says there safe because its isolated them from the rest of the system

Well you might as well cancel the scan because you should reboot the system after removing AVG and reboot again after running the tool.
Can you post a picture of the detections in the chest, how recent are the detections?
