- Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS)
- Which version…??
- OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
- Other security related software installed…??
- Which AV did you use before avast!..??
Avast Internet Security
The latest version
My OS is 64 Bit , should be SP1 since its windows 7
Its a fresh install , i formatted the SSD before installing my OS so shouldn’t be a problem
I had Avast IS registered with license on my HDD. Then i got a new SSD , I did a new install on my SSD , OS and everything. Tried to put my license into my Avast IS after I installed the trial one. Then the argument thingy pops out. My HDD wasn’t connected at all to my computer , just my SSD.
is your OS genuine copy of windows??
Just a thought but maybe Avast is thinking it’s a new machine that the purchased license would not cover. A lot of software locks itself on to the configuration of the machine when it is first installed and it might be looking for the HDD to validate the license.
Going back to the HDD vs SSD issue. The only reason why machines come with HDD’s these days is that they are much cheaper per unit of storage. In the not so distant future, all magnetic storage, including HDD’s , will be a thing of the past.
Is it possible??? But its the same computer , just changing the HDD to SSD. If thats the case , I should just ignore the message?
And yes my OS is genuine. I had no problems on my HDD.
Worst comes to worst , I’ll just re-install my OS back to my HDD and use my SSD for games.
It’s definitely possible. I don’t know how Avast knows you have reached the activation limit but I have known cases where people could not install licensed software after their HDD crashed and was replaced.
If it was me, and AIS and everything else was functioning properly with the license showing as activated, I’d move on and forget the error message. I sometimes get the warning that something may not have been installed correctly and I just ignore it. It happens with updates for Irfanview and PDF-Xchange a lot when you install them over the top of the previous version and they always work perfectly after the updates.
You may have to chalk it up to being another Windows glitch and “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
One of the common problems in replacing a Hard Disk, be that HDD or SDD is that windows may baulk at the changes to the system and invalidate the OS installation. I don’t know if this is the case or how it actually manages that when you change the drive. There are some cloning tools that actually copy across the HDD code wo windows essentially believes it to be the same.
Can you attach an image of the error message ?
According to what it states is missing, doesn’t this have something to do with Microsoft Visual C++? ‘Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.AT…version=“9.0.21022.8” could not be found.’
If you guys don’t feel like this is correct, please let me know.
@muppetlol
In event viewer do you see source side by side error?
Are you still seeing this error or was it one time only?
What versions of Microsoft Visual C++ do you have installed? Will you please list all of them. It will be located under control panel → programs and features.
x86 and x64?
Please see my example in the image provided.
The only update I can find at Programs and Features is : Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148
There are some other updated which I can see only when i click the " View installed updates" , but none of them states Microsoft Visual C++ or anything close to it. Just security updates etc.
It is C++ 2008 that avast requires:
- You need to install MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.
You need 2008 SP1 - this is the one:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update
Note this link there are 64bit versions there (IA64, x64) ensure you get the correct one for your OS (x86 32bit OS, x64 64bit OS)
DavidR , I already have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.
Do I still need to download the one that you posted??
If i downloaded it , do I license again??? My Avast is already activated with license , but theres just the argument thing after i put my license in. So should I try to put in the license after i download the one you posted. I notice that the link you gave regarding the Visual C++ is 2010 version.
Since my avast is licensed and I have like 200+ days , maybe I should just let this problem go?
The link I gave takes me to “Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update” not C++ 2010 and the downloaded file also shows C++ 2008.
If as you say you already had C++ 2008, don’t now if that is C++ 2008 SP1 (but it seems so as it matches the file version I just downloaded (see image, I downloaded the 32bit version).
If it is then you have it installed (and presumably running) this isn’t the problem.
When I connect to my VPN , it used to show the exact ISP name on avast firewall but now it just says VPN. Is there something wrong?
It also happens that after i turn off my VPN , it just says Realtek PCIe instead of my ISP name for example : Virginmedia etc
Is it just a bug due to the update of avast since its unable to track my exact ISP name and my exact VPN name.
Not sure how this is related to your original issue and possibly best in a topic of its own. Or leave it for a while and see if it resolves itself. If it lasts for some time more information could help, e.g. where are you viewing this information.
Looks like we solved all the problem here , I just ignored the argument error and continued on with life.
