Hi
Since I like so much this product I was shocked to find few days ago that a malware named KEK.EXE in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 was undetected -and still is- by avast! , I find it nearly by accident while browsing the directory; however the malware itself is found by other AV’s like Avira, Kasp., NOD, etc.
Anyway, I don’t see the point in blaming Alwil about this, because no product can be 100% effective, even FRISK’s F-PROT, the very first heuristic AV in the world didn’t detect this.
I think it would be a very great idea to have a ‘common pool’ of every malware find between AV companies in the way every time anyone finds a malware it submit it to this ‘pool’ so at the end of the line final users can benefit about this.
May be establishing prizes for the most quantity of malware submitted or most harmfull malware submitted could be a good idea to make AV companies work hard on research - and they could benefit using that prizes to market theyre own product, just an idea.
But this is for sure: I’m not worry too much because avast! didn’t find this malware as why avast! identify lot of security research tools as malware itself when they’re in fact tools - sniffers, hex editors, APT (a freeware utility from Diamond CS to terminate memory process in a variety of ways) etc.
I have mixed feelings on this as avast! Pro is primarily marketed as a ‘pro’ AV for ‘pros’… what?? I miss something??? 8)
You know, the way something work tells a lot about people behind it, and I don’t like an AV ‘for pros’ work as an AV for pro’s grandparents, lol ;D
I am not blaming anyone. I am simply reporting a problem and wish Alwil looks into it. After KASPERSKY, I used ESET online scanner. It also detected the same problem and fixed it.
Unfortunately I searched for the file but didn’t find. Then I used ESET and opted for the option to fix and ESET did that. They I used ESET and KASPERSKY and both reported no problem.
