Yes.
Unfortunately, I think this type of behavior is not uncommon in the Cyber Wars between Security companies. :-\

If you recall MBAM placed some virus signatures in their virus database, but they were benign, they weren’t system files that had been mangled.

These were designed to find out who was plagiarising their hard work anyone remember a certain Chinese AV

Yes and I’m sure with investigation the list would go on.
