I receive a message from Avat Free Edition saying that I have to up upgrade now. I downloaded the setup bit if finishes with an error saying that I have to install patch KB816542 and can´t find a place to do it… Most places refer to Windows 2000.
Please advise where I can download it so I can upgrade Avast.

Have you run windows update so it is fully updated ?
Strange, KB816542 should be required only for Win2000 systems.
It’s already included on Windows XP OSes - so, is it really XP SP3 as you wrote? If so, please copy & paste setup log.
Actually I suspended the Automatic Actualizations after I had an HD problem after one of them… that’s why I am trying to do it manually, if possible… I have XP SP3 as I said, but maybe that specific actualization had more changes afterwards… Will try to ask for a list of actualizations without unloading or installing nautomatically… but I would prefer to just download that one and install it manually…

Here is the setup log… Last night I accepted all the Windows actualizations and, when running the setup I did not receive the message regarding KB816542 but ask me to uninstall the older version… Please advice if that is what I have to do and if that is the usual procedure…
On the other hand, whwn I received the message that Avast was obsolete, I used the menu and asked it to actualize the program… and the response was that it was already actualized ¡
Finally, the version I have installed is the spanish version and the setup it downloads is “setupeng.exe”…
It is puzzling the situation… what can you recommend???
