I’ve just swopped from XP to a new PC with Vista Ultimate.
I never get the blue pop up telling me definitions have been updated any more, but do keep getting a green pop up telling me there is a new version.
I click to update every time but nothing seems to be happening??
Well if you are getting the Green pop-up telling you that there is an update available, then you don’t have Program Settings, Update (Basic) Virus Database section set to Automatic but set to Ask, that is the only reason you should get notified that there is an update available.
You should be getting an update progress window when you click the green pop-up notification, so there is something wrong there anyway.
Are you able to do a manual update, right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, iAVS Update ?
If not, what is your firewall ? Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update again, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
If you right click the blue icon, choose ‘About’ dialog.
Which version of avast do you have installed? 4.7.1043 is the last one.
Which VPS version are you using?
I’m on the latest version - did a manual program update and it worked fine and did a definitions update and it worked OK too, so I’m guessing the firewall must be OK?
Changed my settings to do both automatically so I’ll wait and see if the blue one comes back tomorrow but hopefully all is well now

A manual update would confirm the firewall side is OK.
If you changed your settings in the image I posted to automatic you should be back in business when the next VPS update is released.?
You should leave the Program update at Ask (the default option) because you don’t want could be a large update kicking automatically as you could be tying up your system for a long time.

same Problem here.
As administrator user: I click on the green Info and nothing happens.
As normal user: I click on the green Info and Avast starts updating, but stopps after finishing the scanners and vista says, that there is no virus scanner active.
Manually update works fine.
Hmmm… This seem to be an old UAC problem already reported here in forums…
Can you post a screenshot of this error message?
