Keep getting viruses

I am new at this but am trying to learn. I am running Windows XP home edition. The computer was bought in 2002 but sat for over a year offline. I recently got it hooked back up and everything was out if date of course. My problem is that I keep getting viruses that block me from browsing the internet. I had problems using windows update at first, but now I have it updated to SP1. I’m running avast (free version) and zone alarm (free version). I also have the free ad-aware.
I’ll be online and all of the sudden I’ll get cannot find server pages and will have to do a system restore or run a boottime scan to remove viruses and get it working again. The latest things avast found were Win32:Gaobot-829 [Wrm] and JS:Gummy [Trj]. I’m attaching my hijackthis log to see if anyone can please help me. Sorry this is so long but I’m new at this.

Welcome to the forum smabe,

Have you read the “stickies” at the start of this section and worked through the solutions?

The search function is your first port of call, after doing the research, post back with the specifics of your problem so we can help you with it.

Many users will be able to help you much more quickly with your problems if they know that some basic checks and solutions have been tried first.

This isn’t meant as an unfriendly introduction here btw, just a way to help you quicker

I have read through it now and will try the things that I haven’t already tried. My avast scan is showing clean right now. Will be back in contact if/when specific problems recur. Thanks for the welcome and advice.
