I am finding that when I am not plugged into the electrical outlet that I have trouble accessing the internet on my laptop. Talked for hours with the laptop support. Can’t find a problem. When I do not have a virus checker on my computer then no problem but when I put it on I start having problems. I read that an answer might be to go to the userface of avast and go to firewall. Nowhere on my avast program is there a userface that I can find. please someone help. ???
Nowhere on my avast program is there a userface that I can find. please someone help.do you mean " user interface " ??? the first thing you see when you open avast is the user interface. and there you can find the settings for the firewall, if you have " Avast Internet Security " the free and Pro does not have a firewall
what antivirus did you have before you installed avast ?
have you uninstalled it ?
sorry yes I meant user interface. I have the free version so You say I do not have a firewall. I had avg free before. I unistalled and then looked thru everything to make sure it was gone and then I cleared out the temp folder as well. Any suggestions. Sometimes it works fine and then the next time it keeps dropping the net.
- Ensure that all remnants of AVG are gone - AVG8.x (or higher) Remover, download tool from here, http://www.avg.com/download-tools there is a 32bit and 64 bit windows version, ensure you use the correct one.
I have the free version so You say I do not have a firewall.you did not say what OS you have, but if you have win XP / Vista / Win7 then you have windows firewall

Hi newbie321
I understand what you’re saying because I had exactly the same problem when I got my laptop :
However!
The problem is nothing to do with Avast
The problem is caused by your laptops power settings
Your laptops wireless is probably set for something like - High Performance - While on Mains Power.
Your laptops wireless is probably set for something like - Power Saving Performance - While on Battery Power.
Have a look at this web page here ( Especially the second to last picture ) : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/9090/learning-windows-7-manage-power-settings/
If you are using Vista or Windows 7…
Use It To Help You Find Your Power Settings!
And make sure you have got your laptops Wireless set to: High Performance - For Both… Mains Power - & - Battery Power
Hope This Helps!

Hi newbie321
Those United Kingdom folks know a thing or two.
Over here we refer to Mains Power as Hydo Power as that’s where most of it comes from here.
