Keeping avast! Open

I don’t understand how to keep avast open so that it constantly scans. The manual says that there should be a blue ball on the right side of the task bar, but there is none. The program closes whenever I close the window. I know I’m probably just misunderstanding how this works, any help?

What version of avast Home or Pro do you have ?

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other security software do you have installed, anti-spyware, firewall, etc. ?

It’s home, and I do not have any other AV software besides Windows Defender.

But did you have another AV at any other time, that is a crucial part of the question as many leave remnants ?

I believe that Windows Defender has a startup guard or some function like that ?
If so that could block the creation of the start-up entry and no icon.

  • What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?

As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.

Which is you operating system (OS)?

Defender wont conflict with Avast! i did see it many time with Avast! and ppl was having no problem with it so you dont have to worry
