keyboard and mouse erratic on laptop!

For the past couple of days, I’ve had this annoying problem on my laptop. My keyboard and mouse are going nuts! Sometimes some keys don’t work, sometimes they display another letter or character. For instance I often have a problem with the “e” that displays € instead.

With my notepad, I have similar problems. The left click often displays the properties instead of opening the application. The right click displays the menu for a very short time before disappearing for no reason.

It’s getting very annoying because I can’t type anything or do anything on my laptop (I’m using another computer to type this message). I ran several anti-virus scans with several softwares but it didn’t pick up anything wrong. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and an external mouse, but the same problems occurred. I uninstalled the keyboard and reinstalled it with no success. I did a restoration system to before the problem popped up, but it didn’t change anything. The problem also occurs in the BIOS and in safe mode. Can anyone help?

Since my hijackthis logfile is too long, I put in two posts. Here is the first part:

your hijackthis log doesn’t look horrible. Did you spill something on your keyboard or drop it by any chance? Seems more like a hardware malfunction then a software problem.

Whilst unrelated to your keyboard problem, you appear to have an old version of JAVA 1.6.13 is the latest.

Ensure you have the latest version of JRE (JAVA Runtime Environment) because older versions can be vulnerable to malware. First remove All Older Versions From Add/Remove Programs.

Then get the latest update from here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Or JRE version 6 update 13 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html

The same is true of Adobe\Acrobat 7.0.

Other than that I don’t see anything obvious in your log file.

Have you tried changing the keyboard language setting in Vista (sorry I don’t use Vista, so can’t help in that regard) I had problems with my keyboard layout when I first got my system it wasn’t set to UK English layout. perhaps trying a different keyboard layout before switching to the French keyboard layout.

Presumably you have tried a different keyboard ?
If it is a USB or wireless KB, you could try a normal wired, PS2 keyboard.
