Kubuntu 8.04 inside Windows detected as a trojan?

Hi I’m trying to install Kubuntu Linux inside Windows Xp, and i use Avast home 4.8.1201
But during installation Avast detects a Trojan inside Kubuntu retail Cd? and the installation stops?
Is this a false or a sharp one?

Frustrated!

Hi…

Are you using WUBI or a VM to install Kubuntu and is this a CD from Canonical or burnt by someone else?

I would surmise this is most likely a false positive, however, if there is a way to get a copy of the file, you can have it tested by an online virus checker such as jotti…

http://virusscan.jotti.org/

If you can verify the file is clean, you can just turn the real time protection module off while installing and if it detects it later, you can exclude the file in question.

Best Regards…

Hi ty and yes it is a Canonical made one, and i`m using WUBI installer!
Somehow i cant find the specific tmp file that is detected as a Trojan on the cd, but during install it is probably unpacked, and then detected?

Hi…

It appears the files in question (listed in your snapshot) are under the “Documents and Settings” folder under your user name. This may be where WUBI is stashing the Kubuntu data files. If not, is there anything in your WUBI folder?

Yes, I would imagine avast would pick up the files upon unpacking but they shouldn’t have made there way to your hard drive as your snapshot indicates. ???

btw, I noticed your signature, I don’t think that’s the direction you want to go. Please have a look to Scripture next to my avatar of Jesus and the child

Best Regards…

Hi again  Wubi folder is clear scanned many times thoroughly with Avast, and nothing found?
Also tried scanning all files on http://www.virustotal.com/

…that is, all files i could, but it came out clean there to!?

Hi…

I think it’s 99.9% a false positive, personally, so I think you’re good to go on that.

Hope you enjoy Kubuntu, version 6.06 was pretty good too.

Best Regards…

Ok thx m8 ! i`ll just go ahead i also believe it is a false positive!
On Ubuntu forum they thought the same thing!

Thx!
