I by mistake had installed the russian version of Avast, thinking it was just the installation that would be in russian, so I downloaded AVast 4 Home English Version. I tried to install the english version over the Russian one, but it was still giving me russian labels, I tried to uninstall Avast, but due to language problem I don’t know what I did, but it got all screwed up, I tried to clean the registry, but its not going, I am so stuck, I want to use Avast, and I cannot :(, please help fast
You can add/remove languages through:
control panel > add/remove programs > Avast > change/repair
Changing language:
start Avast > Menu > Settings > Language
Thanks pal,
But this doesn’t help, as I have removed the registry entries too … and even if I install again and try doing it I may not be able to change the Language settings as its all in russian.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast antivirus.
Change option.
On the dialog, choose ‘Change’ again.
Uncheck the Russian language and choose only English.
Do what Eddy said.
Boot.
This is what I see on my screen when I click on Change / Remove from Add / Remove Programs
Easiest way:
- Remove Avast using the uninstall util from the Alwil website
- Reboot
- Reinstall Avast
No need to reinstall - the problem is obviously elsewhere. For avast! to work correctly in other language versions, the corresponding language has to be set in the operating system as default.
nirvana74v, what operating system do you have? In WinXP, for example, the setting is called “Language for non-Unicode programs” (in Regional and Language Options, “Advanced” page). Unless it’s set to Russian, you won’t see the Russian dialogs in avast! correctly.
