Did you ask for any automated action if a virus is found?
Can you boot in Windows Safe Mode?
I just did a reboot in Safe Mode and it’s “working”. Thanks for the quick reply.
From there, you can uninstall avast! and see if it is what is blocking the logon.
But, before, please try to boot in normal mode again as it could be a temporary glitch.
Wouldn’t better advice be to use a recent System Restore Point/Last Known Good Configuration whilst in Safe Mode. That should take the computer back to a position before the trouble and can always be undone.
Why an Avast Boot Time Scan is being blamed for this I don’t understand. If the battery just failed that in itself is extraordinary because this shouldn’t happen. Most laptops give you plenty of warning if there is low power and protect themselves automatically as long as possible by stopping what they’re doing, properly, and going into standby long before the battery drains completely.
Some programs even have low power state safety nets built in and can be configured to stop safely if the battery power level drops below a pre-set % level.
If the power was suddenly cut off the incorrect shutdown involved is much more likely to have caused the problem than the Avast scan. In fact it might be that it damaged Avast not the other way around as is what it seems is being suggested here.
