Laptop crash while scanning for Viruses

Hi, I’m Phil

I’ve been having a problem recently with scanning my laptop for viruses. Everytime i scan my laptop for viruses the laptop shuts it self down. Deos anybody have a solution to the problem i’m having.

System Specs.
Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz
256 RAM

Check the powermanagement settings.

Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.

Does it crash (i.e. a bluescreen appears and/or the computer restarts) or does it really shut down (i.e. power off)? In the later case, I’d guess the problem is caused by overheating - the disk access during the scanning increases the temperature and the cooler isn’t able to keep the temperature within reasonable range. I’ve heard of a similar problem a few times.

Hi,

The Laptop comletely shut’s down, no restart, no blue screen. It only does this when running virus scanner. Is there any solution to the problem.

The problem may be occuring because the battery is knackered. It want charge so i’m having to run the laptop perminantly plugged in. Could this cuase the laptop to overheat.

L8r & Thanks

Phil
