Laptop shutdown problem

Hello!

Half a year ago I bought a VAIO F13 series laptop with Windows 7 x64 system. Sice then it happened, three times if I remember correctly (like once every two months or so), that when I tried to shut down the laptop it wouldn’t shut down (it stopped on the “Windows is shutting down” screen). I tried all the buttons and keys on the laptop but with no success. I had to remove the power cord and the battery to turn it off. Then, when I booted it again it was again all normal and working like a charm. That is the only real problem that I have with my laptop - other than that it works great. But still, I don’t think that’s normal, so, if anyone knows what could be causing that problem, please do tell.

Thank you!

Go to the Sony web site and check to see if your battery was one of the ones that was recalled. Definitely sounds like a battery/Sony problem and not coming from Avast.

If you don't get any answer from Sony and it should happen again, simply hold down the on/off button for an extended period of time and your computer should shut down without you having to remove the battery.

Oh no no, I know it’s not a problem with Avast, this is just like the best forum on the web to get help, that’s why I wrote here. If/when it happens again I will try what you said Bob, thank you for the advice.

Your welcome. I have a Dell but that’s the only way to shut it down to bypass the normal battery
backup feature. Can’t swear that yours functions the same way but it should.
