I have checked the forum could not find any info on this. I am not saying
it is not here but my eyes are bad.
When I try to send a large file over 3MB I always get a message saying.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server
127.0.0.1 failed The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections
Please verify your SMTP settings are correct and try again or contact your administrator.
The setting must be correct as like I said smaller messages go through
perhaps I need to tweak AVAST somewhere. If some one has a solution
please advise and thanks in advance

Increase your email programs timeout settings. It takes avast’s email scanner a little time to scan your outgoing email, during that time nothing is being sent, so your email programs thinks this inactivity is a problem with the server.
What email are you using?
This example is for OE.

Sorry I should have thought >:(
I am using Firefox and Thunderbird enough of this MS crap.
I have checked my setting in Firefox and can’t find any where to increase the time. I did increase the time in AVAST to 240 s. I believe it is with AVAST as
I was with Telus Security and for some reason was unable to download updates. So tried to uninstall and re-install would not let me so came over to AVAST for my virus security. Perhaps I have to increase the time more in AVAST
4 min. should be plenty though.
Thanks

Firefox isn’t your email client and thunderbird doesn’t have an easy GUI way to do this, but it can be done.
Thunderbird does not provide a way of changing the POP3 timeout in the GUI. You need to create a user preference override.
You can do this by creating (or adding to) a file called user.js in your Thunderbird profile folder. Use your text editor of choice, notepad, etc.
To change the POP3 timeout add the lines:
// Increase pop3 timeout:
user_pref(“mail.pop3_response_timeout”, 120);
In this example the timeout is set to 120 seconds (instead of the default 45 seconds of Thunderbird). Adjust the time as you need.
I realize Firefox is browser for info only
I did create file “user.js” and added appropriate lines in it placed in the
Thunderbird profile folder increased the time to 240s. Thought that would
have done the trick, no way still get the :-X message oh well keep
trying to tweak something. Thank you for all your effort it is appreciated
A 3+MB file will work not a 6MB

You can increase the timeout further if you think that it will help. There is an other option, a bit more long winded perhaps, you can untick the scan outbound email when sending large attachments and enable afterwards.
Hey that’s great I will try that one.
As already at 4 min that should be ample time.
will let every one know what the result is.
Thanks again

That was strange unchecked scan mode and tried to send message
it did not work. Thought I would try one more time and it zipped out
no problem. Well at least it does appear to work and not hard to make a check and uncheck. As I don’t typically send 6MB messages.
Yahoo at least I don’t have to use Outlook for these things ;D
Great forum thanks guys…

Glad to have helped, this AV is the most flexible I have ever used. as many you would simply have the option, email scanning On or Off.
Intermittent and tempermental??? %$&* thing
tried sending another 6MB file oops same message
it could very well be my puter it really needs formating but reluctant to do so
waiting until I get a new one up and running first.
