Hi!
I found out I cann’t send enclosures larger then 1mb! Before Avast I could send enclosures of several mb. Is this caused by Avast freeware???
should I buy Avast to send larger enclosures? What does it cost?

The thing to check is the time out limit in your mail provider. Left click the blue icon and select details on the dialogue box that appears, select internet mail, select customise, select the advanced tab and increase your timeout limit to double what is currently there. And no there is no difference between the home and pro versions in this respect. Welcome. Oh by the way what is your OS
Thank you, Essexboy!
It worked after I enlarged the time out!
I have the MS XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2.
My favourite browser is Firefox and I e-mail with Thunderbird.
I used Norton Security and Antivirus for several years, but I think it controlled my computer to much, and made it slower.
And, I noticed that all the dirty spam I got all the time, didn’t come anymore after I installed avast!
Or does that have to do with Zone Alarm, I installed practically the same day???
Well avast doesn’t have any anti-spam function it is just scanning mail for infection.
Zone Alarm free doesn’t have an anti-spam but the ZA Internet Security Suite does, which do you have Zone Alarm Features ?
So any reduction in spam could be a coincidence.
No, I only have the free version, to try… :-[
I’ve been told, because we have a router, we don’t need to much protection. Or is that a wrong thought?
Perhaps Norton send me the penis enlarging spam? ;D
I've been told, because we have a router, we don't need to much protection. Or is that a wrong thought? What you have been told is totally wrong, or you have misinterpreted it I'm afraid. A router only stops inbound unauthorised access to your system, the act of downloading your email will allow that email, including any spam through.
The same would be true of any malware that managed to penetrate your defences, it could download more of the same and your router would allow it through as the request cane from your computer. That is why it is important to have outbound protection, such as Zone Alarm also.
I use MailWasher Pro for Anti-Spam it can also used to deal with suspicious emails. You can intercept these emails at source (your isp/services mail server) and delete them there, rather than download them. There is a free version, but this only works with a single email account. The Pro version works with multiple accounts. There are other freeware anti-spam programs.
Thanks, for your claer answer, David!
I will take a look at some anti-spam programs.
No problem, a belated welcome to the forums.
