Last Avast Update completely blocked PC

Hello,
Hopefully is the right place for my question. I am a paid customers and after the last update of Avast Internet Security the PC is completely blocked. I am using Win 8.1. It starts and shows the desktop but no application runs. It does not allow me to start in safe mode, I cannot access the uninstall utility for Avast, cannot access control panel. The error that comes out after I want to run any program, is “The application…(0x000005)…” I cannot even access the restore points to restore the PC to previous dates. I would like to remove AVAST and reinstall it but I cannot even run msconfix.exe. Any idea or help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Luis.

Thank you Asyn, but as I mentioned the only thing that happens on the PC after turning it on, is the desktop gets populated but nothing else works and shows the msg with the 0x000005 as soon as I tried to run anything. No .exe runs, no Microsoft Office, no nothing. I need to get Avast uninstalled and see what the problem is. I cannot start in safe mode neither so as to run the avastclener and uninstall it. I tried to uninstall directly from the standard uninstall utility but I cannot access the control panel neither. It was working great the PC till I installed the last update of AVAST. There must be a way to uninstall it. I also thought that it might have been some Windows Update but since I cannot access the uninstall I cannot remove any windows update neither. However, the links you sent me might be the solution, but since I cannot run any
.exe I cannot install them. Thanks for your reply. Let’s see if anyone else has other suggestions that I can try.
Best,
Luis.

Hello again,
This might help others with similar problems.
Summarizing: Installed latest AVAST update yesterday afternoon and everything but the desktop was blocked and not even allow me to go into Safe Mode.

  1. Reboot for the nth time this morning.
  2. This time, I was lucky that by right clicking the AVAST icon (in the task bar >> show hidden icons), the context menu opened. This was not available before.
  3. Click on Avast Shield Control >> Disable Permanently.
  4. It automatically unblocked all utilities and computer started to run normally.

I plan to completely remove AVAST from my PC to prevent other nightmares like this one and might attempt to reinstall since I still have a valid license.
I am running Win 8.1 64bit.

Hope it helps and thanks to all those that recommended how to solved this challenge.
Luis.
