last avast update to 6.0.1289 kills web connectivity

After the latest free avast antivirus update (program 6.0.1289 virus def 111110-1) my connectivity via a browser is very sluggish and often times out when trying to connect to websites. I tried 2 different browsers, IE and Firefox, same thing. It’s even terribly slow/sluggish which I connect to the local home page on my hard drive!

Cure: turn of the avast! web shield. That fixes it immediately. I have no choice but to leave it turned off if I want to use a browser on the internet.

I didn’t have this problem before the last avast update, which happened within the last day or so, iirc.

Windows XP Home SP3

It’s resources related. It will work if I cut back on resources (memory, processor usage) from my other software. However I normally have that other software running, and it was working reasonably OK before this latest avast update. That suggests the last avast update increased the resource requirements of the web shield significantly.

Now I recall…

The probable cause is that I didn’t allow it to restart my computer after the update, because I had something else running that I didn’t want to stop.

have you tried latest Beta update ?

Probably not a wise call right now, given the hiccups with it reverting back to the 6.0.1289 release after an update.
