Help! I’m trying to update my defs and I am seeing the above message. I attempted a repair via Control Panel but that also failed, telling me to “use the full update” ?
Win 7, 64 bit machine, Avast free version 7.0.1456, virus defs # 120728-1

Essentially it means you need to download the full virus definitions - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 58.7 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
Note: Ignore the file name in the example images of the page that is displayed after clicking the download link, they are for the main program, not for vpsupd.exe which will be downloaded.
Hi, I’m getting the same error, only when I went to the page you linked to, there were only options for Avast versions 4-7. I’m running version 8.0.1482. Can I download the 5/6/7 version while running version 8, or should I use another fix? Thank you!
The later version 5/6/7 is the same for avast 8 the page hasn’t been updated.
It was after avast 4.8 that the method of compiling and doing the virus definitions update changed, hence the two different databases.
