Last Update blocks my system (AVAST 5)

Hallo,

I have been used AVAST 5 for a couple of month.

A few weeks ago Avast mailscanner blocks multiple email download with Seamonkey. I stop emailscanner modul at this time.

Since the last update a few days ago Avast blocks my complete system (XP prof SP3). Start in secured mode is possible. There I deactivate the avast service. Then my system works fine but without avast of course.

Now my question: Is this problem known by other peaple and is there a workarround or good solution?

Is it possible to run avast 4.8 now?

I have exactly the same problem. Winxp pro hangs on the login screen.

The only solution i could find is uninstalling avast.

Do you had any AV before the installation of avast! ?
If yes, did you removed the AV correctly?

No other OV, I was using avast for 2 years on this PC.

I had a similar problem in 2003 with AVIRA Antivirus on XP prof.
When AVIRA runs on XP with active EFS (encrypted file system) the system was freezed. It was so extremely slowly that I only could hard reset.
At that time I deinstalled AVIRA and buy me Norton AV 2003.
After a few years NAV had more and more problems, so that I lost my fun and go back to freeware scanners.

If there is no workarround for my actual problem I think I have to take another scanner for the next time.

Try uninstalling Avast!, then do a custom reinstall without Behavior Shield. There have been some other BeS issues with the latest version.

Thanks for the idea but I think I haven’t installed it anyway.
I had installed only the ondemand-scanner and the email-scanner without any other module.
