Latest Avast 17.5.3202 not work for me

Hello forum,

I just updated my free avast to latest 17.5.3202 today, it doesn’t seem to work for me, especially to watch any videos, and its super slow to even load any videos, I too noticed my PC slow down terribly after i installed the current version. I tried to repair and uninstall, install again, but none of them seem working, i even turn on and off various shield and finally I found out the "web shield’ was the culprit, not sure why this happen, but I don’t want to turn my web shield off.

Avast seems working fine for me for long time until the current version released. I have windows vista 32bit.

I’m looking for previous version of avast free 17.4.2294, where can I find it? I need offline installer due to my slow connection. Thanks for reply.

avast doesn’t provide old(er) versions.

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version.

  • Remove avast through control panel
  • Run avastclear
  • Remove all leftovers manually
  • Install the latest version

Just a side note, offline installation doesn’t work on Vista anymore.

There is a caveat to that they can run the off-line installation file, but need to be on-line at the time of running, to pick up a component not in the installation file.

Just upgraded to Avast 17.5.3202 under Win/Vista this morning. Lost functionality of Firefox standalone search box completely, and had trouble downloading other stuff with Firefox, although IE worked fine. Experimented and when I disabled the “Enable HTTPS Scanning” under Web Shield, everything works. I assume that I’m getting the benefit of the other Web Shield protection; not sure what the HTTPS scanning is all about.

@Vince March,

Don’t know whether or not this would work but it’s version 17.4.2294

Win VistaHP 32b here as well.
Problems and yes I have done the repair/uninstall/clear etc.
It has taken 30 min to post here - could not log in.
I have watched ‘taskmgr’ and have seen Avast installer running then exiting also emergency updater.
Don’t ask me, I havn’t a clue.
Need old version or fix.

edit
copied post of inojim and disabled HTTPS scanning, this helps somewhat

Just a quick note here:

Avast offline installation doesn’t work on Vista anymore. You have to use the online installers:

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

You can use the Off-Line installer with the provisions mentioned by Asyn:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=204601.msg1403894#msg1403894

The HTTPS thing seems to be the ‘cure’
Can we assume that Avast is aware of this issue or is a ticket needed.

just a question.
Is not this irrelevant for HTTP/2?
Many HTTP/2 servers use SSL communication.

Nope, I did clean installation with avastclear (safe mode) and through online installation like you mentioned but the problem still persists. Im seriously doubt the lastest version’s web shield was the culprit.

Thank you inojim for your suggestion, disable https scanning did help a little, the videos load more faster but not smooth like previous avast version, btw I’m using chrome and firefox. I hope avast will look into this problem, thank you.

Avast is slowing down Firefox. One more time.
Nothing new under the sun, the same sh!t happens again and again…

After the update I noticed I coundn’t even load the soundcloud page… I just desactivated “avast agents” and my firefox is running perfectly.
Avast is the one to blame there. And it’s not the first time. Always the same problems, it’s just boring, really boring.

I’m not noticing any problems:

What else is running in the background ???

So… because you are not noticing any problem, you, therefore pretend there is no problem for any other persons?
You know what, I’m just not allowing me the pleasure to insult you,
Well, for everyone experiencing the “slowing down problem” with Firefox, you just have to desactivate “HTTPS Scanning” in Avast “web agents”.

Thank you for your non-service.
And yes, nothing suspect was running in the background because I know my sh!t, Avast was effectively the one to be blamed.

There is a similar report in the Japanese forum by auau1234, who already posted here.
I suspect this issue only occurs on XP / Vista.

@Nevaz
What OS are you using?

Edit: I can confirm this issue on my Vista machine.

Hi guys, thanks for the report. We are using different tech on vista+xp and win7+. Xp and vista are running on the network filtering code obtained from Outpost (and of course modified over the time) where on win7 we are using the WFP Api. Can anyone, please, see the problems on Win7+ systems as well?

Thanks. Lukas

Hi Lukas,

How would this workout for those of us using XP and also still have Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro installed (with its network filtering) ?
I only ask this as I’m not experiencing these issues on my XP Pro SP3 system.

Even after the sell out to Yandex

Nope, seems to work fine here. Cheers.

The issue only affects XP and Vista, Lukas.

Win 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 are fine.
