Latest update blocking EVERYTHING

Hey i just updated Avast last night and when i turned on my comp today i noticed chrome and IE is not getting any connection. Also none of my online games are getting it. When i turn off ALL the protection from avast it works. All these programs have exceptions in the firewall and always have, still nothing is getting thru the firewall. How do i fix this?

I had the same problem.

The firewall can only be managed by those who know what ‘system rules’ and ‘packet rules’ are.
You can find these under Tools/Firewall/Settings. There is no option to disable the Firewall, or if there is it is hidden from mere mortals.

I have no clue what system rules and packet rules are so I have been unable to customise the firewall to suit my needs. I uninstalled Avast and now use the W7 Firewall with MSE for antivirus (freeware) and Malwarebytes (freeware) for the trojans etc.

This latest Avast is a backward step. Can we have Avast2013 back again please?

John

Thats absurd.
If the firewall were the main issue then why not run windows firewall with avast.?

I understand your logic in the response but it’s not “absurd”.
I don’t think Avast gets it…Avast 9 should never had been released !!!..this is BETA level software at best.
There are too many bugs on too many major items…VPN, Outlook, Firewall, Online Security, DeepScan, BSODs, etc, etc.
The better option is to uninstall V9 & reinistall V8…so you get good “basic” A/V protection…and hope/wait for V9 to get improved (stable).
The issue if you read the Forum is that the user base has lost confidence in this release…I don’t blame them.
If you want, I still have all the old links you can read from AVG8 to AVG9 where it was estimated they lost almost 40% of their user base in just six months.

Because I could not find a way of disabling the Avast Firewall!

More to the point, it is absurd to pay for a firewall and then be told it should be disabled.

Won’t argue that.
