As there’s been no response from Avast (no acknowledgement email, no email reply)
Haven’t seen it reported by anyone else yet…
Every time I try to run create a Rescue Disk, I get the error message: We failed to create a Rescue Disk.
I updated to this version using the update process in Avast on three computers. all were updated successfully, but on two computers ( I haven’t tried the third computer yet) I cant create a rescue disk because Avast is saying that imagex.exe in the Microsoft folder at C:\Program File(x86)/Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\x86\DISM\imagex.exe is malware/Ransomeware/a virus and that it’s trying to access/overwrite sensitive files.
This is the Microsoft Imaging Utility.
I’ve scanned the file with AVAST and Malware Bytes and both say the file is OK.
I’ve temporarily turned off Ransomware Shield and Sensitive Data Shield, and loaded the file as an exception, but the problem still exists.
I’ve also sent a false positive report to Avast about this file and the error.
I’ve also run a Repair App from the troubleshooting screen and that hasn’t fixed this error.
Has anyone else had this problem with this latest update?
(stupid question time) Can Rescue Disks (USB) created on one computer be used on any other computer, or only on the computer it was created on?
I currently create separate rescue disks for each of my computers and are wondering if that is required.
As long as the rescue disk is created on the same OS, it should make no difference which system you us it on as long it’s running that same OS version.
All it does is allow you to boot the system and run a virus/malware scan.
I can’t make a Rescue Disk after the latest Avast! updates & upgrades, either on a USB drive or as an .iso file on the hard drive. It gets in the 40% -50% range and fails. Hope it’s not a long-term problem.
I normally create a fresh Rescue Disk after an AV update, but will hold off for now.
Although problems seem to be related to latest AV update, the forum section for Rescue Disk can be found here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=6.0
So do I (always create a new rescue disk after very programme update)
As for the rescue disk forum, it is virtually inactive, with the last post being six months ago on 21st March, and the previous post was in January. (only two so far this year)
Since the rescue disk is used primarily to recover from an infection, it should be updated via a new media
every once in a while to have access to the latest detection when you use that rescue media.
Thanks for that, I thought it might be like my Macrium Reflect rescue disk which uses the drivers on the computer being backed up and restored, and can only be used on the computer the recue disk was created on.
I’m still waiting to hear about a fix for this problem…
I’ve sent you the reports your support team asked for, and the screen dumps of the error.
I’ve also been told by one of your team members (ApoC) on the rescue disk forum that the problem would be fixed with VPS update 25/09/2019 11:16pm V190925-2 but it still cant create the Rescue Disk! It just says we failed to create the rescue disk on all three of my computers.
They also told me to try a work around IE: As a workaround for the issue allowing the process from Ransomware protection dialog should fix the Rescue Disc creation on consecutive run.
This doesn’t work either.
Also as I had not heard any update from your support team, I sent them an email asking them if they had an update. I have yet to receive a reply back from them.
I recently updated my paid for subscription on 12/09/2019 for another year, I’m wondering if I should have held off, or gone with the other AV’s I checked to see if they offered a better deal (as I do every year). So far your customer service in dealing with this problem I have hasn’t been anything like what I would expect for a ‘paid for’ product/service from you.
As I suspected, the part of forum concerned with Rescue Disk has been overlooked. >:( https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=229578.0
I await r@vast to post here when problem is eventually fixed.
Hey guys! I just had this same problem and managed to rectify it. The USB flash drive that I was attempting to install the rescue disk on had more than 1 partition on it. Avast formatted the first partition to install on but there wasn’t sufficient space for it to succeed. I deleted all other partitions then created a new one that took up the whole drive (16GB). I then created the rescue disk without issue. The only problem here is you need to have a a good working knowledge of dealing with drive’s and partitions to accomplish this and the appropriate software to carry it out. Avast needs to factor this into the recovery drive creation process so the end user doesn’t have to do any of this. I hope this helps someone out there.
