I have used and enjoyed Avast Home edition for awhile now, but as of the latest update (4.8.1351) my Windows Security Alert screen shows that Avast is reporting that it ‘may be out of date’ to the overall WSA system. I have my firewall and auto updates turned on throughout my system and I have not changed any main settings, within Win XP or within Avast. I cannot get the WSA to accept the fact that my AV program is up to date at this time. Any suggestions? Has anyone seen this happen with the latest update? Thanks in advance.
Hi, couple of things to check,
- your system date and time are accurate,
- You may need to rebuild your WSC repository. (WSC sometimes has a bit of a brain fart, the poor thing.the cure is below.)
1. Go to control panel and open Administrative tools. 2. Click on services. 3. Go down to Windows Management Instrumentation. 4. Stop this service. Stop Security Center service too. Set them to Automatically start. 5. Exit out of this area, to your desktop. 6. Right click Start, and choose Explore. 7. Go to c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository. Delete this subdirectory ONLY. Leave the others there. 8. Exit back to your desktop and reboot your computer (you might need to boot twice). This will rebuild the deleted folder, and the database.
Once restarted, Windows Security Center should show the correct info.
Antivirus, and firewall, should now be recognized.
I had no problems after updating to 1351 on XP. Runs like a well tuned sewing machine.
Check the system date, day, month and year; adjust as required.
If that is correct, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version (which could result in an out of date pop-up).
