I have a Toshiba 64-bit laptop, running Windows 10 Home, 8gb memory, 1T hard drive.
I have a very slow internet connection, my normal download speed is around 40KB to 50KB. I had just finished some downloads last night at that speed. Then I got a notification that I needed to run an update on Avast. I still had a couple of downloads remaining to do but opted to do the Avast update first. It finished normally and I went back to finish my downloads. Now the downloads are downloading at 2KB, maybe 5KB occasionally. I need to know what settings need to be reset in the newer updated version of Avast so I can do a download that isn’t going to take 3 days to complete. Something is really screwed up with this new version.
Not only are the downloads not working as they should but now I’m getting messages on websites, including the Avast website, that says the certificate cannot be verified and it won’t open the webpage.
I expected better from Avast. I really need this fixed. Thanks for your help.
Ah, yes, rebooting, I know it well.
Last night after installing the update, Avast said it needed to reboot and I did. That’s when the problem started.
I rebooted four more times last night, hoping that would change something. Silly me. Then again three times this morning, and once just now after reading your suggestion. I figured there was no point in doing it twice, all things considered. And nothing has changed.
I also rebooted my wireless router twice with no change.
I can’t think of anything else or I would have rebooted that too.
When Avast does an update, do they leave all your custom settings in place or do they all get wiped out? I don’t remember if I had any. I don’t think I did except maybe an exception for my bank. I’m just curious. That would be a real pain if they got wiped out every times there’s an update.
Disabling the Behavior Shield helped a little bit. Now the speed is back up to between 5 and 6KB. Certainly not smoking fast and certainly not the 50KB that I used to have. But thanks for the suggestion. I hope to get other suggestions I can try.
