Latest Update Seems to Block Downloads/Exclusions

Hi guys,

My Free Avast updated in the last couple of days. everything was working fine last night but as of today, downloads from some sites (that were working fine a few hours ago) are interrupted. I say interrupted because Avast doesn’t actually block them, rather, the download window displays “Unknown Time Remaining” and doesn’t show the size of the file, showing 0 bytes instead. They’ve been put on the exclusions list already so that Avast doesn’t confuse them, but still this happens. It must be something to do with Avast because disabling the shields results in downloading as normal. Does not happen on all sites, just some, regardless of exclusions. Happens regardless of browser, and the only fix for now is temporarily disabling shields when I want to download, which isn’t ideal. To be clear: Avast isn’t catching and misidentifying downloads as malware. It’s just doing something that causes the downloads to switch to “Unknown Time Remaining” until they eventually time out and fail.

Any help to get things back to the way they were is appreciated. I haven’t tried removing and re-adding the exclusions, yet, which may help.

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

My specs are pretty old, Vista 32-bit SP2. I only use Avast, I do have a couple of security add-ons for the browser such as Bluhell and NoScript but that’s about it.

Known issue on Vista. It should help to disable HTTPS scanning in the web shield.

Will try this, thanks!

You’re welcome.
