I updated today to the latest version 19.8.1393, and the program just won’t respond to mouse clicks or keyboard. If I move the mouse over a button it will highlight, but if I click the mouse or use the enter key nothing will happen. I can’t close the window either; the “x” in the top corner will highlight, but it won’t react to mouse click or keyboard. The only way to close it is “Close window” from the taskbar.
Even if I right click on it’s icon the menu will pop up, but again it won’t react to and clicks or keys so I can’t make a selection from there.
Yeah, I should have mentioned; I tried the repair and reboot twice. No change.
So I completely uninstalled it, rebooted, then used avastclear.exe in safe mode to completely clear everything, then reinstalled it from scratch. Still the same problem.
Choose the appropriate installer and save to your downloads folder. You may want to archive (save) this file for later use.
Sometimes the online installer does not work as it should, hence the recommendation to use the offline installer instead. Reboot your system more than once to ensure the new installation takes after install. Use avast clear exe to remove the corrupted install first.
Just went through the process; uninstalled, rebooted, rebooted into safe mode and ran avastclear.exe, rebooted, installed from offline installer.
When installation was finished a window popped up to say “You are now protected”, I moved my mouse to the continue button, clicked, and again nothing happened. Couldn’t close it, icon menu won’t respond to clicks, all the same problems. Rebooted, same problem, rebooted again, same problem.
I’m not much of a gamer so I have the attitude 'if it’s not broken don’t fix it", because I’ve had trouble with nvidia updates before. Of course if that turns out to be the problem I’ll have to do it. You’re supposed to disable your antivirus for a graphic driver update to install properly aren’t you? I can’t do that without the interface responding to me, unless I uninstall it again I guess.
Also, am I supposed to be waiting for a response to the Avast Support Tool File ID I provided?
