Leave security to us, says MS man

‘Don’t trust third party security vendors to mess with Vista,’ says MS man: ‘leave security to us.’

Vendors of security products are having to hack Vista to get their software to work, says the report.

McAfee man says free anti-spyware programs install spyware themselves.

If we could rely on MS for security then there wouldn’t be all these third party apps ;D

At least they’ve got a good record :-X

Leave security to them ;D its like a burglar saying they will look after the family silver ;D They have such previous form on security that I had to check it wasn’t April 1st there is absolutely no way I would leave security to MS. If Vista is exploited then your screwed, I think they are putting too much faith into this UAC. For the very same reason I don’t like a browser that is fully integrated into the OS, exploit the browser and the potential is there to exploit the OS.

If Vista is so great why are MS bothering with One Care or are they up to their usual games of hyping their own One Care program, which the firewall got a lot of stick in an Agnitum (Outpost developer) review of One Care. So they would like to have us buy one care because they don’t trust anyone else messing with Vista to install their protection. I feel another anti-trust episode coming on.

Stephen Lamb, Microsoft: "The question I would ask is 'do I want third parties, other than the manufacturers of the kernel that I'm using, making changes to that?' Because making changes, even to access controls, can have a direct impact on the reliability and integrity of the system. That's really why Windows Vista's been re-architected - to protect itself from external access."

At the same time that Microsoft launch OneCare, an all in one security package meant to look after your computer and all your data, it also starts shutting out parts of the operating system to security software vendors, leaving the whole gamut of security on Microsoft’s shoulders.

Same for security suites where one or more elements may have a vulnerability which may exploit all. I would much rather spread my eggs into more than one basket.

Where do these people get their ignorance or arrogance from.

Anology to this is years ago one Auto Maker here in the U.S. offered a multi featured in dash radio. It had AM, FM, and also CB (Citizen Band) 2 way radio. Sort of a “all in one” deal. Well, if any of the 3 different modes of this radio failed the complete unit had to be pulled out of the dash board to fix anything wrong. The customer was left without any radio at all.
