Length of time a scan takes

These days I have noticed that a scan of my computer for viruses takes half an hour.I don’t know if this is a problem because last month it only took 10-15 minutes.Is this a matter I shouldn’t concern at all?I think that perhaps the automatic updates have made my virus database more effective hence the more length of time it takes. Is this correct , should do something?Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

  1. Have you put any new software have you put on your system latley?

  2. Have you changed the scan type?, i.e thorough scan

  3. Have you got anymore running processes?

In a month, a lot of things are/can be changed.

Did you ran chkdisk?
Did you defrag?

Ho much space you have left on the hd?
What os?

Sofar it looks like you are worrying about nothing, just because a lack of knowledge (no offense) but giving more info to me (us) will help to give more detailed/personalized information/help

Just to add…
A half hour scan with the scanner set to Thorough and Archives is fine.
If the VRDB is running at the same time, then it does take a bit longer since the computer is trying to do two things at once.

Do a scan disk or defrag :-\

What is a defrag?Is it the same with scan disk?

No, defrag is ‘defragmentation’… you can see some links for good defrag applications into my signature (click on links).
Scandisk looks for errors into the disk.
Defrag applications join the ‘parts’ of the file for best and fast read/write operations. :wink:

Thanks a lot I did a defrag and after a lot of errors I insisted and it was completed. Then I scanned my computer for viruses and the time it took was less 24 minutes. Perhaps I should do a defrag more frequently. Thanks a lot for your help
