Less scanned items

I have noticed an interesting behavior from Avast! for the past week.

So … until the reboot on Tuesday due to Patch Tuesday, there were like 100k items scanned by the Web Shield per day (I wasn’t using the computer for more than 4-5 hours per day). After the Patch Tuesday reboot, I’ve noticed a significantly lower number of items scanned by the Web Shield. Just to give you an idea: since that reboot, I only have like 114k scanned items in total in the Web Shield counter.

Was there some improvement done to the Web Shield scan engine via definition updates? Because I can’t quite explain what happened.

Moreover … I do only one quick scan of my computer every week. Last scan was last Sunday … there were some 55k items, amount of data tested was 27.2 GB. This morning, I did my weekly scan. 51k items … I did a cache clearing during the week, so I thought that might be related. However, the amount of data tested was down to 24.6 GB. I didn’t do any significant alterations to my system this past week (except Patch Tuesday) and an update to Firefox. As a note, I do have both persistent cache options checked.

Was there some improvement done to the system scan engine via definition updates? Because the difference of 2.6 GB looks rather significant.

Notice the questions following the two cases being somewhat related … I’m wondering if the two cases are related or not.
