LF Free Firewall Compatabile with Avast 4.8 !

Hi guys ,
I am currently using Avast 4.8 with Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0 . CFW is ok , but i want something that you can just install and you don’t have to configure . Have tried ZoneAlarm Free , but didn’t like it ! Are there any other free firewalls that work good with avast ?

                                                                                            Thanks
                                                                                                 JOEY

To get the outbound protection you will have to do some work, e.g. answer the pop-up questions relating to outbound connections, etc.

Most firewalls to some degree or other have this function. It should however, calm down after a period of time and only pop-up for changed applications (program updates, etc.) or new applications.

avast is generally compatible with any firewall as it isn’t a firewall.

Today there aren’t firewalls “install and forget”.
There are Fw’ with more or less pop ups, but all show pop ups.
If the FW doesn’t show pop ups, you can’t create your rules and configure FW.

Hello dukwhunter

This is nice to see. People who got help here, helping others. It makes the forum stronger. ;D

Undoubtedly, Online Armour is the answer to your requests.
It is available both in paid and free version.
I myself am running paid version (because I cannot imagine working with my account without anything like OA “banking mode”) but the free version is also very good and quite sufficient.

Running OA in so called Standard mode is very unobtrusive, since producers took care to do as much as possible in place of user.

Hi Guys & Gals ,
Thanks for all the suggestions and links . I think i am going to stick with Comodo Firewall Pro for now , just wanting to make sure that i have it configured right so that avast has access to all of it’s normal functions . I have been a loyal Kaspersky user for the past year and have only recently switched to Avast & Comodo , because i’m just so tired of paying for computer security ! >:(

                                                                                            best regards
                                                                                                         JOEY

Yes, both Comodo firewall and Online Armour are very good solutions, OA perhaps being more user friendly for not-so-much-experienced users.

Hi JanP ,
Thanks for the links , but i think i will try Comodo for now , besides i am running Windows Vista Home Premium which is not supported by Online Armour correct .Take care & thanks again !

                                                                                      best regards
                                                                                                    JOEY

Hiya dukwhunter

Seems we both picked Comodo :)… I installed and so far its working fine, CPU and RAM usage on normal levels. I had no problems at all with the Avast! adjustment… Comodo automatically asked to allow/block the connections and was a matter of clicking OK. The rest of my applications are working fine too. Lets see how it pans for the next couple of weeks.

If something gets weird here I will let you know.

Ah! A piece of advice… Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector (http://secunia.com/software_inspector/)… its an online scan, fast and very effective tool.

Peace out.

I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with GhostWall Firewall. From the description, it sounds like a simple basic firewall that does not consume much memories or cpu and it is free. But is it effective?

You’re asking twice the same… don’t double the effort of help.
