You don’t say what your avast version is ?
If it is the Home version then you need to re-register at the avast.com web site and you will be sent another registration key.

Hi,
my avast version is 4.6 (Home version). As I got the information that my registration key has expired I re-registered at the avast.com web site. But even after I’ve got another registration key I couldn’t download the current version of the virus database. The reason: “Your licence key number is invalid or expired”.
Is it possible that I forgot something? I couldn’t find a specific way to re-register as a former user. Is this the clue?

No need to worry about being a former user, you just register again avast! 4 Home Registration and if you got your registration key that should be OK see below.

The latest version is 4.7.827.
And make sure there are no spaces before or after the registration number when you enter it.
