I registered Avast for my netbook, but I don’t have an email account on it, so I entered the email address of my desktop computer. Avast sent me a licence key but I don’t know where to put it!

You could have used the Hone version key for your existing desktop provided the use of your netbook is for Home and non-commercial use. That would be in the email sent when you registered your desktop.
To enter your key, right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select about avast and click the License key button and copy and paste the key you were sent into the input box.
Thank you David! Fortunately I still had the email with the license key for my desktop computer. I guess I’ll have to do it again a year from now, so I’m putting your directions in a safe place.
