It records that i recently renewed the license key - on 06/07/11 - and was told it was a 1 year license.
today however my avast will not run as it claims it is expired on 01 jan 2012.
(wtf? as they say)
Then i tried to get a new license key from your website and now getting a load of agro for no apparent reason.
It is a bit of a shame: for such an otherwise great product this is unecessarily messy and smacks of desperate amateurism - not the sort of thing that would persuade anyone, certainly not me, to trust Avast Pro for online business protection - It is the sort of practice that ensures Norton etc remain at the top of the professional rankings.
So please send me a new activation license key thingy asap
Correction:
In the ‘About Avast!’ window of the Avast! software i now see Avast!'s update feature did expire 01-January-2012, strange for an Avast! 1 year license.
Avast! Registration Key: W49950252H1200A11112
Avast! Type: home
Avast! Expiration: never
Avast! Updates expiration: 01 January 2012 00:00:00
As the actual Avast! product has an expiration date of ‘never’ I hope i can get a new ‘Avast! Updates License Key’ or ‘Avast! Registration number’ or Avast! code whatever it may be called this year.
OK, I am getting confused here and i think this is beginning to sound ridiculously and Avastly! over-complicated - but the actual issue in question is quite simple, regardless of my inability to understand yet more new Avast! protocols or explain exactly what I think i mean:
vis: The Avast! product has ceased functioning and I am asking you, Avast!, please, for the love of mankind, for whatever Avast! code it is I need to reactivate it, ASAP. Thankyou, thank-you, thank-you.
Much obliged, as ever,
Yours sincerely

PostScript: I do hope you can address this issue ASAP, as due to this unexpected problem I now feel completely yet needlessly exposed and shockingly unprotected from whatever bogies are currently passing from machine to machine.
It just occurred to me - this is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what i thought i was getting when i began using the Avast! anti-virus software for protection!
If you all look a little closer at the information supplied, it also refers to avast Home (not avast free) and this most certainly is an old version, I can’t recall when that was dropped, probable when avast5 was released.
So that would make it avast 4.8 Home and that did have a notice of Avast! Expiration: never in the ‘About Avast!’ window, as it related to the Program. The key also looks like the old avast 4.8 Home format also.
The latest program version opens the avastUI, Maintenance, About AVAST! and it doesn’t show any registration dates at all.
Unfortunately the OP never mentioned what avast version they have and no one asked ?
