License file WILL NOT work

Hi All!!

Im not sure whats going on, I’ve read through about 1000 forums trying to find the answer to this and nothing seems to work.

I have installed Avast Pro AntiVirus, and no matter what I do, when I insert the file into the Maintenence section it comes up with my License details and then says “Unable to insert the License File”

I’ve restarted my computer about 10 times, uninstalled anything that even looks like a kind of anti virus, re-installed Avast, got the file re-sent to me, but nothing is working

Any Idea’s anyone?? Maybe something to do with settings on my PC, it is starting to have issues

Hi HanSavage

Welcome to Avast forum.

Please make sure that the extension of license is “.avastlic” (ignore")

if it’s not there please rename the license as License.avastlic

Try to insert it.

thanks

Please, upload (attach) the avast log:
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\Setup.log
or C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\setup.log

If the file is too big for the forum, post the last 400-500 lines of it.

I had to take well over the first half of it out, let me know if you need any more

You have a lot of 0x00000005 errors.
Are you an admin of the computer? The only one?

Im not sure what that means :stuck_out_tongue: But yes I am the only Admin of the computer

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

I did check, it was named correctly.

However, after doing all of that it’s working!! Absolute Genious!!! It wouldnt uninstall from Control Panel even in safe mode, but I just uninstalled it with the program in safe mode and it got destroyed! New setup worked perfectly, license was added instantly, now I can get off this stupid thing and go enjoy whats left of the day!

Thanks so much for your help!!

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
