License for 5.x Pro won't work for 6.0.1367

I had avast update and restart yesterday with the new client it said to download. Now my key I purchased a few months ago will not work. How can this be fix?

Thanks!

Why won’t it work, e.g. what errors are you getting ?

The avast 5.x pro license should work with avast 6.0 pro as essentially it is using the same license file format. Where did you purchase your avast license ?

You should have been able to update avast 5.x pro from the avastUI, Maintenance, Update, Program to avast 6.0 pro and the license information would have been retained along with your existing settings.

How did you update to avast 6 ?

I updated through the auto update in the client for Avast. Now it says I need to renew my license. I tried to insert the license and I also went into the .dat file to look at it to see if i could manually input it but the key that’s in the .dat file doesn’t match what you can enter. It just says that the license I enter isn’t a valid one. Thanks!

The stand alone avast 5 pro (and avast 6 pro) doesn’t use a .dat file but a license.avastlic for the license.

Which is also why I asked where you purchased the license from.

I bought it directly from avast, you can buy avast licenses else where? and Why would that matter if it worked with Avast 5.x and for some reason is giving trouble with 6.x? I get the email that avast sends, I try inserting it into the client and it says No valid license content found and then in the email the dat file also comes and has a key or a code of some sort that I would think would be able to be used manually which it doesn’t work. Thanks!

You can purchase through an avast reseller there are some for local areas.

However, if you purchased through avast.com the purchase will have been handled by Digital River (element 5).

If as you say you purchased it a few months ago avast 6.0 was out then so the license should have been for avast 6.0. You should have received an email from element 5 with an attached license.avastlic file or a link to download the file. Did you get that (not a .dat file) ?

You would have had to entered that via the interface (mentioned above), basically pointing avast at where you saved that attachment to. Or double click on the license.avastlic file, either of those options should automatically extract and enter the license.

From what you are saying, you have a different use of avast pro operating in a managed network “I get the email that avast sends, I try inserting it into the client.” By this mention of a client PC I think network and having something to manage registrations, is this correct ?

It is almost 2:15am here, so it may bet best to contact sales (at) avast (dot) com and explain the full circumstances, especially if this relates to a managed system with client PCs with avast installed on them.
