First I would like to start by telling you until now I never had any problems with Avast and I’ve really enjoyed the Home version. I used to use Norton Internet Security but no i’m running Zonealarm Pro (newest version, just updated) and Avast Home.
As far as p2p goes it seems i’m limited to using gnutella clients as my university is monitoring my internet traffic. I used to use DC++ but that doesn’t work anymore, neither does BitTorrent(any version) or emule/edonkey. I’ve tried Kazaa- sucks, Shareaza (can’t use it effectivly) and now Limewire, which worked great. But then suddenly yesterday, no new installs done,no new updates, when i start Limewire it connects and starts downloading but then ashserv.exe really starts hogging resources until the computer locks up and limewire and god knows what else crashes. The only available option is to turn off the computer by shutting down the power by pushing the button.
Ashserv.exe uses atleast 250mb of my available 512 when this happens.
There must be someone else out there with a similar problem, please help me, I would really like to continue using Avast and with Limewire I don’t really have a choice cause it for some reason works ten times better than any other program since my university fucked up everything by packetshifting my traffic.
Please help.

hi Jinha,
Welcome to Avast forum!
So did u uninstall Norton Internet Security properly?I asume ur using the lastest version of lime wire.Try using the Beta version of Avast! or u will have to wait for 1or 2days for it to release the final version for 4.6V.U just have to check in forums…for downloading that beta version.I hope so it will fix the prob…
And Ashserv.exe is no fixed file size as such,if ur not using limewire does this proble occure too??Try to de-fragemt ur h.d.d!
This solution may not that helpful.I am sure some one will help u…

Anyone need to know. ?
Avast 4.6 Build Mar2005 4.6.603 and Win2000
Just in the last few days since recent Avast Autoupdate, I get the known ashserv.exe Tried to execute memory @----error during shutdown
Also , this occurence has started in the last few days too…the Windows Color logo flashes continuously (5X per second) during O.S. Load
This is just after the W2K black screen with vertical white progress bars “Windows is Loading”, and before the pale blue screen “Windows is setting your personal settings”.)
Thereafter no problems during long 10 hr operation of Windows VB6, VPN connection, Internet access and lots of programs running.
Avast scan of all local disks runs OK, as does Sygate Firewall.
I am unworried since I see it may only be a recurring shutdown bug, but I thought support might like to know.
Taskmgr
aswUpdSrv.exe 172K
ashWebSv.exe 6.68M
ashServ.exe 1.36M
ashMaiSv.exe 1.36M
ashDisp.exe 4.0M
